in plain sight no need for special software to read it. Then the 3 count of activation should be available to everyone. Are private information that belong solely to the previous owner under new privacy laws. To complicate matters even farther Canon now says any clicks, shutters, or mirror boxes put on a camera before you owned it. The number of clicks on the current shutter, the number of clicks on the mirror box(critical), and the total number on the entire camera since it was built. Every dslr ever made has three different shutter count totals(Canon always knows all three). Shutter count is a fairly complicated thing. What is the resistance on Canon's side of making this data available to the OWNER of the device? When features sell cameras, it seems this is a feature deliberately not included why? I'm not arguing with you, I'm just trying to understand why it seems that Canon doesn't just disregard shutter counts, but actively works to thwart software used for such a purpose. It isn't, so why actively thwart people who want to determine the shutter count of their cameras? In what way does it negatively impact Canon that they seem to actively make it more difficult to determine shutter count? If it were a warranty issue, I'd demand to be able to see my shutter count in my camera any time I wished without the need for third-party software. Not saying it's right but that's what they do.Įxactly. It's not like a Chevy that has a mileage limited warranty and requires periodic maintenance to maintain that warranty.īuyers are using lack of shutter count as a mileage determination of value. I'm not being argumentative I honestly would like to know what benefit Canon sees from denying this information to the owners of Canon cameras.Ĭanon doesn't warranty a camera on the shutter count basis, only a period from date of purchase/delivery. Maybe there isn't, but restricting access, and constantly making it harder certainly suggests there is something to hide. What is the resistance on Canon's side of making this data available to the OWNER of the device? My car has an odometer, and it doesn't rewind when I drive backwards.why wouldn't a shutter count be easy to obtain? How does it affect Canon? It suggests there's something to hide in the compiled data. I've seen these kinds of threads for years. The "eosmsg" support 5d4 5ds/5dsr 1dx2 750d 760d 1300d 80d etc, but it's not free. I used this program in December and it worked: My information comes direct from the EOSCount author: I’ve used the app for 5d mkiv, 80d and sl2. I’ve seen it mentioned that there is a ShutterCount for Windows but I know nothing about it. If you have an iPhone or iPad, ShutterCount App will work on a 5d MKIV. Folks on mac claim that the mac version of eoscount can still get the count. AFAIK, it's not possible to do this any longer. I believe Canon has removed the ability to get this information from its latest SDK, which is the only version that supports newer models. I don't see anything indicating it supports mk iv Tried eoscount but it doesn't work for the MK IV on windows.
